Pro-China Demonstration, Hollywood

Yesterday afternoon a large number of pro-Beijing activists demonstrated along Hollywood Blvd., hoping to bring attention to the Olympic games as an event separate from politics. There were as many as 2000 demonstrators (it took them over ten minutes to file past at a pretty good pace) and they seemed highly organized. Many wore red hammer-and-sickle t-shirts (yes, good luck getting people to stop talking politics with that one, guys) and carried signs saying “Visit the Olympics to See the Real China”. There was also a very large number of PRC flags flown, and the group seemed very happy as they smiled and sang songs in Chinese.
Nobody mentioned that China is using the Olympics to improve its image abroad (resulting in political gains), and so even act of protesting to keep the politics out of the Olympics is itself political.
