I recently wrote something about how much I love cacti. They’re the perfect plant for my area: they love sunlight and heat, they’re extremely water-efficient, and they inadvertently kill small insects and the occasional child.

They are also often stunningly beautiful, as when they flower. I don’t know what species this is, but it’s a fairly nondescript cactus tending towards ugliness. When it flowers, however, WOW.

I made this for my mother after she installed some particularly nasty malware that disguised itself as a virus scanner and took over her PC and wouldn’t let go unless she gave it $75, which she was perfectly willing to do.

“Hey why won’t this take my credit card number?” “I don’t know. Did you type your CVV right— OH GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS FLUFFY!!!”

Anyway, I had a fridge magnet made of this for her, which is now displayed near her computer desk. Click thumbnail for source file.
